In order to answer this question precisely, we need to separate two related but distinct concepts: Price vs. Value.
Price: how much does something cost?
Value: is it worth it?
The PRICE to work with one of our associate instructors reflects their level of expertise, plus a margin that supports WGA’s operating costs. The majority of that fee goes directly to the instructor.
Why are we willing to pay our instructors the majority of our revenue?
Because of the VALUE they bring to our institution. For us, they are worth it.
Why are they so valuable to our institution?
Because they possess the rare combination of world-class musicianship and teaching experience necessary to provide a level of rigor that facilitates genuine musical growth. Students who grow with us stay with us– often for years. And, as they mature into competent musicians, they serve as living, breathing, guitar-shredding advertisements for what we do here. This attracts more great students, which attracts more great teachers (like attracts like, afterall) and the virtuous cycle continues.
Now what you’re really wondering: is the VALUE of your lesson experience commensurate with our PRICE?
The truth? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The efficacy (i.e. VALUE) of a guitar lesson results from the unique chemistry of a student and teacher working together toward a common goal. BOTH parties play a role in the success or failure of the learning process.
We do our part by matching our students with highly skilled, well paid, passionate instructors. But even the best instructor is powerless unless their student is humble, coachable and motivated. In order for a student to derive VALUE, they must put forth consistent effort for us to direct into the hyper-specific areas that will move the needle. In other words, you’ll get out of it what you put into it.
Some students are not ready for that level of commitment, and that’s okay. There are gobs of guitar teachers who are happy to show you a few cool riffs and help you explore your burgeoning passion for music. But for students who are ready to buckle down, a different caliber of instructor is in order– one who isn’t afraid to push them through the often frustratingly tedious work that high-level musicianship demands. These sorts of instructors are exceedingly rare, and not for everyone. But for the right student, they are worth every penny.

The next step is to apply and schedule a consult so we can determine whether our approach and your goals are aligned.
We work with a limited number of motivated students and are selective by design.
